Osteoarthritis Prevention and Management

After rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis has been known as the most common form of joint disorder. In terms of prevention, people have a higher chance in preventing osteoarthritis because, unlike rheumatoid arthritis, it has known causes. According to a new medical research reported on Oct. 17, "Omega-3 can help in osteoarthritis prevention". Many strategies have been developed in dealing with osteoarthritis prevention. Then, it is also to take a look into other strategies in order to lessen the risks of getting afflicted with it and not just be satisfied with the advantages of Omega-3.

Diet Evaluation

Topping the list of diet-related factors is maintaining an appropriate weight. A focus on amount of food consumed in relation to weight being gained is not a requirement as part of the active way in preventing osteoarthritis. When one has added weight more than the body can normally bear, it adds more pressure to the joints, which can clearly result in problematic situations. Proper food must then be consumed toward achieving this goal.

As there are certain types of foods that can be dangerous to the joint, being careful with the food consumed is also important. It is known that foods rich in omega-6 fatty acids can increase inflammation. This should be a reminder that it is important to stay away from safflower, sunflower, and corn oil. Ginger, celery, turmeric, and red pepper are foods known to be helpful. The University of Manchester has also found out from a study that a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice can do wonders in lessening the risks of osteoarthritis.

Exercise

In order to make the joints flexible and stronger, it is essential for one to practice regular exercise. However, one should be reminded that exercising too much will not be helpful as the joints may be strained and could lead to other problems. Walking and swimming for their daily exercise routine can be a good start.

Dehydration can be a major underlying factor for joint pains and degeneration because water comprises a major part of the cartilage. Coffee, tea, and soda act as a diuretic, blocking absorption of water in the body and drinking good quality water is always helpful. Always remember that water is the key to a healthy joint, alongside proper lubrication and shock-absorbing properties of the bones.

There is great importance in knowing these things because they can be helpful in preventing osteoarthritis. We should also be informed about other issues related with osteoarthritis, like people filing a "Pinnacle lawsuit".
